Building a Skills-First Workplace

The March 2024 issue of SkillsFuture Jobs-Skills Insights puts the spotlight on embracing a skills-first mindset, championed by none other than HR professionals who are at the forefront of driving this shift within the organisation – from recruiting for skills to skills development and management.

Titled The Key to Productivity and Growth: Building a Skills-First Workplace, the report is published in partnership between the Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). One of the report’s main thrusts is about going beyond the traditional rubrics of academic qualifications. How can companies practise a skills-first mindset? What do they look out for in employees in order to cultivate a dynamic and adaptable workforce?

Inside this report, you’ll be able to access information on the top three organisation priorities for the next three years, the difference between skills and competencies, hiring tools to evaluate skills for new hires beyond resumes, job roles that can potentially incorporate skills-based hiring assessments and the different types of psychometric tests. In addition, you can find out the benefits of skills-based hiring and why it benefits your organisation to get the IHRP accreditation.

You will also hear from industry voices such as ST Logistics, Singtel, BNL Group, Inspire-Tech and Nudgyt on their different skills-based business approaches, as well as a quick glance on the data collected on the skills-based methodology for MNCs, SMEs, public sector, LLCs and the non-profit sectors in Singapore.
