Workfare Skills Support Scheme

What Is Workfare Skills Support

The Workfare Skills Support (WSS) scheme encourages lower wage workers to undertake training that leads to more impactful employment outcomes.  

There are 3 funding components under WSS: Training Commitment Award (TCA), Training Allowance (TA) and Absentee Payroll (AP).

Eligible individuals may receive:

  • Training allowance for selected courses that individuals had paid for themselves 
  • A cash reward for completing training

Training Commitment Award

Trainees can receive a Training Commitment Award (TCA) of up to $1,000 for courses attained during their WSS eligibility period at the following support level*:

a.$800 per qualification for WSQ or Academic CET full qualifications
b.$100 for any 2 of the following courses up to $200:

i. WSQ Statement of Attainment
ii. Academic CET Modular Certificate or Post-Diploma Certificate
iii. Certifiable Courses supported by SSG

Training Allowance

Self-sponsoring trainees are eligible for Training Allowance (TA) at $6 per training hour capped at 180 training hours per WSS eligibility year*.  Do note that courses must start within the trainee’s WSS eligibility period.

TA is applicable only to outcome-based courses and selected courses that support the Progressive Wage Model.

Absentee Payroll

Sponsoring employers are eligible for Absentee Payroll (AP) at up to 95% of trainee’s hourly basic salary, capped at $13 per hour*.
