MySkillsFuture is a one-stop portal, which enables you to make informed education and career choices and empowers you for lifelong learning.
The portal is designed for individuals from Primary 5 to adulthood.
If you are a student from Primary 5 to Pre-University, the portal is designed to help you discover your interests and strengths, and guide your education and career development at every stage of your education journey.
Prior to the launch of MySkillsFuture, ecareers.sg was the portal used to support ECG lessons in schools.
Compared to ecareers.sg, MySkillsFuture allows students to continue to have access to ECG resources and build their education and career eportfolio across different life stages. It contains new features such as an enhanced occupations database, interactive avatar for Primary school students to learn about industries and jobs and reflection questions that will enable students to consolidate their learning while exploring the portal.
MySkillsFuture for Students (Primary) is designed to facilitate ECG for Primary 5 and 6 students.
ECG’s focus at the Primary level is to help you develop your self-awareness and introduce you to a wide range of occupations, including new jobs created in this ever-changing world of work. Designed to support ECG lessons, the portal will enable you to:
The portal is designed to support you in your education and career planning process. You will be able to learn about different jobs, skills and work values through interactive games and tools. You will be able to access a database of occupations and information on Secondary schools to facilitate your education and career planning.
Research has shown that late Primary school is a good time to provide career education and that it is appropriate to start with an emphasis on career awareness. According to psychologist Erik Erikson, children at the Primary level are at the psychosocial stage of discovering their interests and strengths, and developing a sense of competence. When you participate in school programmes, they will provide you with rich opportunities to find out more about your interests and strengths.
Used in ECG lessons within Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP), MySkillsFuture for Students (Primary) is a useful resource that can support you in your journey of self-discovery. It can also help to develop your awareness of the world of work. Through games and activities in the portal, you can learn more about your interests and different industries and occupations. The portal also provides an engaging platform for you to explore options for Secondary school and the various education pathways after Primary school.
The Primary portal has been developed for you based on your developmental readiness and reading level.
When you are not logged into your MySkillsFuture for Students account, you can only browse and search for industry, job and school information.
When you log in to the portal, you are able to access more features such as viewing information you have browsed and saved as favourites on My ePortfolio, playing Career Quest and recording your achievements on My Profile.
My Profile and My ePortfolio enable you to update, track and consolidate your personal information such as abilities, skills, knowledge, qualities, talents, and achievements in school and beyond school. The information stored in My Profile and My ePortfolio will remain within the portal as you move on to Secondary school. You can also download or print out your information.
With My Goals, you can take charge of your education development by planning your next steps forward. In this goal setting module, you will be guided to set both academic and non-academic goals to help you achieve your personal best in and out of school.

One of the theories that influenced the development of the Student Portal for Primary Students is Super’s Life-span, Life-Space Theory. It is one of the best-known developmental theories (Super, 1953, 1990; Super, Savickas & Super, 1996). This theory emphasises on career awareness as a career development goal for students in Primary schools. When youths are developing, staying aware of different occupational roles help them to expand their self-concept. To stay consistent with this theory, the Student Portal uses a sample of careers from 31 different industries in Singapore to help Primary school students to learn about various occupational roles.
Another theory used as a foundation in developing the Student Portal for Primary Students is the career search self-efficacy (Solberg, Good & Nord, 1994). This theory came from the application of Bandura’s (1986) Social Cognitive Theory. Career search self-efficacy refers to the confidence level that students perceive they have in their ability to conduct tasks related to career awareness, career exploration and career planning. Therefore, the modules will allow for a thoughtful search of related information on occupations and industries.
Gottfredson (2005) advocates that when it comes to career aspirations, all children move through the same four stages of circumscription – (1) orientation to size and power (ages 3 to 5), (2) orientation to gender roles (ages 6 to 8), (3) orientation to social valuation (ages 9 to 13), and (4) orientation to internal, unique self (ages 14 and older). Tracey (2001, 2002; Tracey & Ward, 1998) has demonstrated empirically that when it comes to organising their understanding of the world of work, children of primary school-age tend to focus more on activities than occupational titles. And as they develop deeper skills in abstract thinking when they reach middle school, the RIASEC-related measurement tools become more suitable for them. Tracey (2002) has found that interests and competence expectations shift and change a lot for those in primary grades. Tracey and Ward (1998) also discovered sex-typing of interests in students from fourth and fifth grades.
