“I was 23 years old when I left my job as an air stewardess at Singapore Airlines. I was still young and I wanted to explore my interests instead of just settling in my comfort zone. I applied for an opening at Om and Away and one of the founders, Charlyn (that’s her on the left of the photo), hired me under the Work Trial programme.

"I was intrigued by the idea of working at a start-up, as my work would have a direct impact on the business. When I took on the role, I discovered how much there was to do and learn. From building the website, to forging partnerships with clients and customers around the world, I had to figure it all out as I went along. When I was a flight stewardess I dealt mostly with passengers in a service role, now I liaise with people to build stronger and sustained engagements with them.

"As my work hours are flexible – I work four to five hours each day – this gives me time to work on my own start-up. It’s not related to the travel sector, but is similarly close to my heart.

"It’s the best time to explore opportunities around you to find that balance between financial security and doing something you love when you are young. For me, working in a start-up has inspired me to pursue my own entrepreneurial goals – something I’ve become very passionate about!"
