Are you standing at a career crossroad, thinking about which path to take? Navigating through a career switch may not be a linear process. When it comes to choosing the right direction, our skills ambassadors are here to shine the light on your career path and help you identify the skills you need.

From industry insights to figuring out the essential skill gaps to fill, here’s a guide on how you can benefit from speaking with a Skills Ambassador and how to go about it!

1. What can I gain from speaking with a Skills Ambassador?

Whether you are a jobseeker or considering a career switch, consulting a Skills Ambassador helps you gain a better understanding of your career interests and goals.

In addition, you will be guided with the right information on the types of tools, training and resources needed to support your career transition or progression.

2. What is the Skills and Training Advisory process like?

The Skills and Training Advisory (STA) is a service provided by SkillsFuture Singapore to guide Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents in identifying their skills and training needs.

Individuals can sign up for a free one-to-one consultation with our Skills Ambassadors for support on your career growth across various stages. During the session, you will receive recommendations on suitable courses and programmes that best cater to your career needs.

To get started,  sign up online for an online one-to-one-consultation and a Skills Ambassador will be in touch with you within three working days.

3. How should I prepare for the consultation session to get the most out of it?

First and foremost, you need to come with an open mindset. While you may likely attend the session with a specific objective in mind, there is a possibility that you will leave with new plans and career goals to ponder upon.

Before the 45-minute consultation, consider the following questions:

●       What are my career interests?

●       What skills do I have?

●       Do I have a career goal? If so, where am I at currently?

Also, try out the RIASEC personality assessment test to gain insights about your personality, strengths and work values. These can become valuable data points for the Skills Ambassador to facilitate a detailed discussion.

With the preparation work done, you will be able to fully maximise the consultation session and receive recommendations on suitable courses and advice that matches your career trajectory.

4. Are there any useful tips or advice for jobseekers to take note of?

Although securing employment is a priority for jobseekers today, you should not overlook the importance of acquiring the right skills in an ever-changing job market. Armed with the relevant skills, you stand a better chance to outshine other candidates.
